Japanese women’s apparel brand MAYLA has announced a new collaboration item inspired by the long-running anime Nintama Rantaro: the “Nintama Rantaro Iconic Skirt”. The piece draws on the grade colours of the Ninjutsu Academy’s fifth and sixth years, and is packed with design details that evoke the world of the series.
About Nintama Rantaro
Nintama Rantaro is based on the ninja comedy manga by Sobee Amako, following the comedic daily lives of young ninja-school students Rantaro, Shinbee, and Kirimaru as they strive to become first-rate ninja. The TV series has been airing since 1993 and has built a devoted fanbase across generations.
Most recently, the theatrical film Gekijouban Nintama Rantaro: Dokutake Ninjatai Saikyou no Gunshi opened on 20 December 2024, adapting the popular novel of the same name. The film takes a more serious tone than the TV series, beginning with the disappearance of teacher Doi-sensei after he sets out to duel the Tasogaredoki ninja Moroizumi Takanamon.
Iconic Skirt Details
The skirt is available in two colourways:
- Purple — inspired by the Year 5 grade colour, represented by characters such as Kyuji Hesuke and classmates
- Green — inspired by the Year 6 grade colour, represented by characters such as Zenpoji Isaku and classmates
Design highlights include:
- A ribbon styled after the sash-knot of a traditional ninja outfit
- An asymmetric hemline evoking a ninja’s agility and dynamism
- A scroll-shaped ribbon with the names of Year 5 and Year 6 characters embroidered on the respective colourways
- An overlapping wrap-belt silhouette with a long trailing ribbon for a sense of movement
- Black side panels reminiscent of ninja tools and blades, adding a sharp, edgy accent
The skirt is available in sizes M and L.
