Voice actress Hirano Aya, known for voicing the titular character in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, sent fans into a frenzy after posting photos on X showing the anime’s main cast reunited for a special joint birthday celebration.
The SOS Brigade Birthday Party
Hirano shared that the gathering was organized as a joint birthday party for the SOS Brigade, noting that Haruhi, Kyon, Kyon’s little sister, and “idiot” Taniguchi all share October birthdays — and were duly celebrated by Yuki, Mikuru, Koizumi, and Kunigida.
She reflected warmly on the occasion, writing that while the cast had met several times throughout the year to mark the series’ 20th anniversary, sitting down together for a meal like this felt like something that hadn’t happened in nearly two decades. She closed her post with heartfelt words: “Thank you for the best birthday celebration. I love everyone, always.”
About Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu is based on the light novel series by Tanigawa Nagaru, illustrated by Itou Noiji, published under Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko. The story follows the sci-fi-tinged school adventures of the unofficial club “SOS Brigade,” led by the eccentric Haruhi.
When the TV anime adaptation aired in 2006, it became a full-blown cultural phenomenon — celebrated for its shuffled narrative timeline and the viral ending theme dance “Hare Hare Yukai”, which spread rapidly across the early internet.
Fans Overwhelmed with Joy
The photos showed the voice cast assembled together, including Sugita Tomokazu, the voice of Kyon, who fans noted looked particularly overjoyed. The response online was an outpouring of emotion and excitement:
- “What is this?! Am I dreaming?!”
- “20 years later and we still get to see this group together — I’m deeply moved.”
- “Just seeing a photo of them eating together is enough to make me cry.”
- “Seeing them gather like this makes us fans happy too.”
- “Sugita looks like he’s having the time of his life — and somehow that makes me happy too.”
The reunion serves as a touching reminder that the love for Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu — both among the cast and the fanbase — remains as strong as ever, two full decades on.
