The production team behind the TV anime Shuiro no Kamen (朱色の仮面) has released the synopsis and advance preview images for Episode 1, while also confirming that the series’ second cour will begin airing in April 2027.
Episode 1 Synopsis: “Mask Merchant Pel”
Based on the manga by Dr.Poro and Naba Nabana, the series follows Pel Darest, a traveling mask merchant who was once manipulated by the Bushin no Kamen (Mask of the War God) into killing his companions and beloved master, Gaston. Determined to prevent the tragedy from ever repeating, Pel sets out on a journey across the world to destroy every dangerous mask he can find.
Episode 1, titled “Mask Merchant Pel,” airs on October 10, 2026. In it, Pel — cheerfully running a roadside stall — encounters a young girl named Sona. He tells her plainly: “I came to this country to destroy the mask of Gaston Roux.” However, Gaston was one of the Three Great Mask Merchants of the World, killed alongside his disciples in a mysterious incident seven years ago…
Celebrity Support Comments
Several Japanese celebrities sent in messages of support ahead of the anime’s premiere:
- Tenshinhan Daro (comedian): “I don’t think there has ever been a work that incorporated masks — which hide expressions — so deeply into a mainstream battle fantasy. Watching Pel take on different faces is thrilling, yet the expression of someone carrying their own sins shakes your emotions. Tearful scenes are inevitable, so I’d like a smiling mask, please!”
- Mita Mao (talent): “The excitement of abilities changing with each mask worn, the burdens each character carries, and the expressions that convey emotions so directly — the impression I got reading the original manga is unforgettable. To be able to experience it again through anime… Shuiro no Kamen is the greatest battle fantasy!”
- Panther Suga Ryotaro (comedian): “What seems like a conventional story turns out to be a manga depicting a hero and heroine weighed down by shadows and regret — a work that suits black-and-white perfectly. I can’t wait to see how much it evolves once it puts on the mask of color, sound, and movement that is animation.”
- Puppet Muppet (comedians): “Each mask has different abilities — so cool! Puppet Muppet is a cow-and-frog duo, so there’s no one hiding behind a mask here, but we feel a strange kinship with this series. The Puppet Muppet mask!”
