Harold Sakuishi’s beloved music manga BECK is teaming up with Fender’s iconic Telecaster electric guitar to mark the instrument’s 75th anniversary. To celebrate, Sakuishi has created a brand-new illustration depicting Tanaka Yukio (Koyuki) — the series’ protagonist, who was a high-schooler throughout the manga — now grown into a 30-year-old man.
Why BECK and Telecaster?
The collaboration was born from a shared spirit: the long history of the Telecaster mirrors the story at the heart of BECK — a tale that begins with a fateful encounter with music. The two were seen as natural partners, united by a deep love of the craft.
The Special Illustration
In the newly drawn artwork, a 30-year-old Koyuki holds the 75th Anniversary American Ultra II Telecaster, a special commemorative model, against a backdrop of clear blue sky. The image captures him pouring his whole body into the music, accompanied by the symbolic message: “すべては、ここから始まった。” — “Everything started here.” The illustration will be published in the Guitar Magazine November issue (Rittor Music), on sale October 13.
BECK on the Cover of Fender Newspaper Vol.18
BECK will also grace the cover of Fender Newspaper Vol.18, Fender’s official free paper, set to be released in early December. Inside, readers will find an exclusive interview with Harold Sakuishi, in which he discusses his feelings about music and guitar as depicted in the series, the various instruments that appear throughout the story, and his personal connection to Fender.
The free paper will be distributed at Fender Flagship Tokyo and authorized Fender dealers across Japan. Coinciding with the release, a limited run of T-shirts and posters featuring the new illustration will also go on sale. Further details are to be announced.
