Story & Highlights

The anime is adapted from the light novel by Hagure Metabo (HJ Novels / Hobby Japan; character designs by Masami), produced by Studio Comet, directed by Kuzuya Naoyuki, with series composition by Hirota Mitsuki and character design by Anezaki Sayaka.

Synopsis

Duke’s daughter Elizabeth Reyston has devoted herself to statecraft as the crown prince’s fiancée — until the night of the kingdom’s founding festival, when the prince, infatuated with another noblewoman, frames her for a crime she didn’t commit, breaks off their engagement, and throws her into a dungeon. Abandoned even by the king and her own father, the prime minister, Elizabeth escapes with the sacred Seven Grimoires and flees to the neighboring Utia Empire. There, under the alias Ellie Rays and with the backing of imperial ambassador Lucas, she builds a trading company and sets her revenge against her homeland in motion.

What Makes It Worth Watching

  • Brains over brawn: Ellie’s revenge relies on commerce and strategy as much as magic, giving the story a satisfying, unconventional edge.
  • A warm ensemble: Maid Mirei, apprentice Lunoa, cat-girl Misha, and Sister Tida each bring personality and warmth to balance the cold-blooded scheming.
  • Standout music: OP “Q.E.D.” by Ogura Yui (who also voices Lunoa) and ED “Goodbye Lullaby” by Onishi Aguri both carry a dark atmosphere that fits the revenge theme perfectly.

How It Ends

Episode 12, “The Furious Lady’s Revenge Is Not Over,” serves as the finale. Ellie’s trap brings down everyone involved in the counterfeit gold-coin scheme in the Kingdom of Haldria one by one, and Crown Prince Freed is stripped of all authority and deposed. With Silvia abandoning the prince and heading home, Ellie’s revenge only accelerates.
