TOHO animation announced on Saturday that the Kaiju No. 8 anime’s previously teased “conclusion arc” — first revealed last December — will take the form of a feature film slated to open in 2027. The studio also released a “super teaser visual” video alongside the announcement.
The franchise’s official English X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed the film’s title as Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission. The accompanying teaser visual carries the tagline “The era of humans is over,” with artwork drawn by art director Shinji Kimura.
Staff & Production
Shigeyuki Miya returns to the director’s chair for the film, once again working with studio Production I.G. The announcement coincided with a “Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa” fan event held at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, where the anime’s cast reunited.
Previous Franchise Releases
In April 2025, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment gave the first-season compilation film, Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon, an event-style theatrical run in the United States and Canada, available in both subtitled and English-dubbed formats.
The television anime’s second season premiered on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels in July 2025, streaming live worldwide on X/Twitter simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast. Crunchyroll also carried the new season.
The four-episode anime short series Narumi’s Week at Work debuted on September 5, releasing one episode per week through September 25, with Crunchyroll handling streaming duties.
About the Manga
Naoya Matsumoto launched the Kaiju No. 8 manga on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website in July 2020, and the series concluded in July 2025. Shueisha distributes it digitally via its MANGA Plus service, while Viz Media publishes the manga in English both digitally and in print.
The story follows an ordinary man whose job is far removed from his childhood dreams, until an unexpected turn of events transforms him into a monster — reigniting his lifelong ambitions.
The Game
The franchise’s tie-in title, Kaiju No. 8 the Game, launched for iOS and Android in August 2025, followed by a PC release via Steam in October 2025.
