Haruko Ichikawa, the manga artist behind Land of the Lustrous, is set to debut a brand-new series. The December issue of Kodansha’s monthly Afternoon magazine announced on Friday that Ichikawa will launch Cosmic Mimimi in the magazine’s next issue, arriving on November 25.
About Cosmic Mimimi
Described as a “neo kawaii sci-fi” series, Cosmic Mimimi follows a character named Mimimi, who lives in a city defined by a “cool” and “dreaming” atmosphere. Mimimi’s goal is to make everyone happy, and the series promises a stream of strange yet joyful events surrounding this creature of happiness.
Land of the Lustrous: A Look Back
Ichikawa launched Land of the Lustrous in Afternoon magazine in 2012. The manga concluded in April 2024, with Kodansha releasing the 13th and final compiled volume in November 2024. Kodansha USA Publishing handles the English-language release.
The manga received a 12-episode anime adaptation that premiered in October 2017. HIDIVE streamed the series outside the United States and Canada as it aired, later adding it for US and Canadian audiences in June 2018. Amazon’s now-defunct Anime Strike service handled streaming in the US and Canada during the original broadcast. Sentai Filmworks released the anime in a steelbook complete collection in January 2019.
Award Recognition
The accolades for Land of the Lustrous continue to grow. In 2025, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of Japan awarded it the grand prize at the 45th Nihon SF Taishō Awards. Additionally, in August 2025, the Japanese Association for Gender, Fantasy & Science Fiction honored the manga with the top prize at the Sense of Gender Awards.
