The first official teaser video for the anime series DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS has been released, alongside the announcement that acclaimed author Tow Ubukata — known for Mardock Scramble and Soukyuu no Fafner — will serve as series composer and screenwriter.
About the Source Material
DEATH STRANDING is an action-adventure game created by Hideo Kojima, set across a fractured America devastated by a mysterious phenomenon known as “Death Stranding.” The story follows protagonist Sam Porter Bridges as he travels the continent reconnecting isolated communities. The original game launched in 2019, with sequel DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH following in 2025. As of June 2026, the series has surpassed 27 million players worldwide.
Story and Setting
DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS is set in the same world and era as the games but introduces an entirely new cast of characters. The story begins immediately after Sam successfully links the North American continent via the Chiral Communication network. As the remnants of “America” inch toward reunification, that very act of connection triggers a new and unforeseen catastrophe.
Amid the chaos, several individuals fight fate on their own terms: an elderly sage seeking to restore the world’s connections through unknown means; a female soldier trapped in a cycle of destruction and conflict; and a young boy burning with rage at the world’s injustices. At the center of it all is a girl who has rejected all connection — until a chance encounter pulls her toward an unknown destination.
“My mother became a crater.” — The girl lost everything to a Death Stranding explosion, and chose isolation as her way of life.
The teaser itself offers glimpses of a blonde girl tormented by nightmares and a massive crater, hinting at the new narrative threads to come.
