A symposium titled Anime Eizo Archive Saizensen — The Near Future of Anime Archiving, Viewed from the Current State of Film Archives is set to take place on October 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Anime Tokyo Station in Tokyo.
Part of the Ongoing “Anime Archive Vision” Series
Anime Tokyo Station has been hosting a series of symposiums under the banner Anime Archive Vision, dedicated to debating the preservation and utilization of Japanese anime. For fiscal year 2026, three sessions are planned under the shared theme Anime Archive Saizensen (Anime Archiving Frontiers). The October 14 event will be the sixth installment overall in the series and the first of the new themed run.
Three Expert Speakers
- Tochigi Akira — Director of the National Film Archive of Japan
- Yabe Masaru — Representative Director of the Film and Theater Culture Association (映画演劇文化協会)
- Kazufuji Masahiko — Attorney specializing in intellectual property related to audiovisual archives
The three panelists will examine what an ideal anime film archive should look like, discuss concrete possibilities, and explore the measures needed to build a sustainable cycle of preserving, publicly sharing, and actively utilizing anime footage.
How to Apply
Attendance is limited to 50 participants, selected by lottery. Applications are open via the official Anime Tokyo Station website and will be accepted through October 5.
