The staff behind the television anime adaptation of Yūgo Kobayashi‘s Aoashi manga unveiled a new promotional visual and announced the theme song artists for the series’ second season on Friday.
Theme Song Artists
Rock band 10-FEET will perform the opening theme for the first half of the second season — covering the first 12 episodes — while singer-songwriter Ai Higuchi will handle the ending theme. Titles for both songs have yet to be revealed.
Anime Expo Panel
The staff also announced that the anime will be featured in a panel at Anime Expo on July 3. The panel will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the production as well as preview footage from the second season.
Premiere Date and Staff Changes
Aoashi Season 2 is set to premiere on October 4 on NHK Educational.
On the staff front, Kazuki Yokoyama steps in as director, replacing Akira Satō, who helmed the first season. Asami Taguchi (Lupin Zero) and Junko Yamanaka (Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye) join returning character designer Manabu Nakatake in the character design role, while Asuka Yamaguchi, Saki Hasegawa, and Toshie Kawamura are no longer credited.
The rest of the core staff returns, including series script supervisor Masahiro Yokotani, sound director Shōji Hata, and composer Masaru Yokoyama. Notably, TMS Entertainment takes over animation production from Production I.G, which handled the first season.
About the First Season
The first season premiered in April 2022, directed by Akira Satō at Production I.G. Crunchyroll streamed the series simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast.
About the Manga
Kobayashi launched the Aoashi manga in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in January 2015. The series concluded with its 40th volume in August 2025. It won the Best General Manga award at the 65th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2020 and has over 15 million copies in circulation. Titan Manga is publishing an English-language omnibus edition, with the first 3-in-1 volume released on June 9.
