The production committee for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity — the fourth and final part of the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime — announced on Saturday that episodes 49 and 50 have been delayed. Episode 49 will now air on Monday, October 19, and episode 50 on Monday, October 26, both at 24:00 JST (effectively midnight into the following day). The committee cited ongoing quality improvements as the series approaches its climax.
Climax Selection Rebroadcasts
In the weeks leading up to the delayed episodes, a curated “Climax Selection” of earlier episodes will air as follows:
- Saturday, September 19 at 11:15 p.m. — Episode 7: “Born in the Dark”
- Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 p.m. — Episode 28: “Kill the King”
- Monday, October 5 at 24:00 — Episode 46: “The End”
- Monday, October 12 at 24:00 — Episode 48: “The End Two World”
About The Calamity
The Calamity premiered on July 25 on TV Tokyo at 11:00 p.m. JST. It subsequently aired on BS TV Tokyo (July 27), AT-X (August 2), Hiroshima TV and Niigata Broadcasting (August 4), and Sendai Broadcasting (August 10). Japanese streaming services began carrying the series from July 26 at noon.
The opening theme, “I-BULL,” is performed by jo0ji, while singer-songwriter 9Lana performs the ending theme “Rasen” (Spiral).
U.S. Theater Screenings
Viz Media and Fathom Entertainment held advance screenings of the first three episodes of The Calamity in U.S. theaters from June 25–29, across 943 venues. Screenings were available in both Japanese with English subtitles and in the English dub, and featured an exclusive behind-the-scenes conversation with creator Tite Kubo, chief series director Tomohisa Taguchi, and series director Hikaru Murata.
Series History
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War adapts the final arc of the original manga, spanning volumes 55–74. The anime has aired across four cours with breaks in between:
- Cour 1: October–December 2022, concluding with a one-hour special combining episodes 12 and 13.
- Cour 2: Began July 2023 on Hulu (U.S.), Star+ (Latin America), and Disney+ (select international territories).
- Cour 3 – The Conflict: October–December 2024, ending with a one-hour finale.
- Cour 4 – The Calamity: Currently airing.
Outside Japan, the series streams on Hulu in the U.S. via Viz Media, on Disney+ internationally, and on Ani-One Asia across many Asian countries.
