Kadokawa announced on Friday that the television anime adaptation of Kureha‘s light novel series Bride of the Barrier Master (Kekkaishi no Ichirinka) is set to premiere in January 2027. Alongside the announcement, the team unveiled a new teaser visual, a teaser video, the main cast lineup, and additional staff details.

The anime’s score will be composed by a trio of musicians: Yukari Hashimoto (known for Mr. Osomatsu and Penguindrum), Ruka Kawada (Is the Order a Rabbit?, Isekai Quartet), and R.O.N (Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods, FLCL Alternative).
Story
For thousands of years, Japan has been protected by five clans wielding barrier-weaving magic. Hana, an eighteen-year-old born into a branch family of one such clan, has long lived in the shadow of her more capable, beautiful, and popular twin sister. When a powerful ability awakens within her, she chooses to keep it hidden in order to live a quiet, unremarkable life. That peaceful existence is threatened, however, when Saku Ichinomiya becomes the new head of the Ichinomiya clan and begins searching for a bride strong enough to stand at his side. Determined to keep her powers secret, Hana does her best to avoid Saku — but will the promise of a tranquil future be enough to tempt her into signing a marriage contract?

Kadokawa published the first volume of the light novel series, featuring illustrations by Bodax, in December 2021. The seventh volume is scheduled for release on June 16. The series has surpassed 2.5 million copies in circulation.
A manga adaptation illustrated by Odayaka has been serialized in Kadokawa’s B’s-LOG COMIC digital manga magazine since March 2022; its seventh compiled volume was released on December 27. Yen Press publishes both the light novels and the manga adaptation in English under its Yen On and manga imprints respectively.
