Japan’s free-to-air satellite channel BS12 Twellv has announced a special lineup for its “Sunday Anime Theater” (日曜アニメ劇場) slot, airing every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. throughout November 2026. Four landmark anime films have been selected, spanning decades of Japanese animation history.

November 1 — Genma Taisen (Digital Remaster)

Genma Taisen (Harmagedon: Genma Wars) holds a special place in anime history as the film that marked Otomo Katsuhiro‘s debut as a character designer — years before AKIRA introduced “Japanimation” to the world. Based on the novel by Hirai Kazumasa, it was also the very first Kadokawa theatrical anime. The film pits psychic warriors against the world-destroying force known as “Genma,” and will be screened in a newly prepared digital remaster.

Luna, an esper princess from Transylvania, joins forces with the cosmic entity Froy and the cyborg soldier Vega to defend Earth from Genma’s invasion. Meanwhile, Japanese high-schooler Amamiya Jo awakens to his own latent psychic powers — just as Genma appears before him.

November 8 — GHOST IN THE SHELL 4K Remaster

Directed by Oshii Mamoru and based on Shirow Masamune‘s manga — which has recently been adapted into a new TV anime series by Science SARU — Ghost in the Shell is set in the year 2029, when rampant cybercrime and digital terrorism have led to the formation of the covert special-ops unit Public Security Section 9.

Section 9 commander Kusanagi Motoko, a full-body cyborg, leads the hunt for the internationally wanted hacker known only as the “Puppet Master.” The film screens in a newly restored 4K remaster.

November 15 — Innocence

Also directed by Oshii Mamoru from Shirow Masamune’s source material, Innocence is a sequel set three years after the original film, in 2032, this time centering on Section 9 detective Batou. The film made history as the first Japanese animated film to compete in the main Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival (57th edition).

All that remains of Batou — a cyborg with only a fragment of a human brain — are his memories of Motoko. When a gynoid companion robot goes berserk and murders its owner, Batou and his partner Togusa investigate, fighting through the interference of a mysterious hacker attacking Batou’s cyberbrain to uncover the truth.

November 22 — Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files (Theatrical Version) — Free-TV Premiere

Rounding out the month is the theatrical compilation of Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files, a prequel to the landmark 1980s TV series Armored Trooper Votoms. This broadcast marks its free-television premiere, timed to coincide with the theatrical release of the brand-new entry in the franchise, Armored Trooper Votoms: Hexe (灰色の魔女), on November 20.

The classified “Pailsen Files” document the secret of a special genetic trait called the “Abnormal Survivor” (異能生存体). Gilgamesh military intelligence official Fedok Wokkam dispatches five soldiers — Chirico, Barcoff, Godan, Zaki, and Cochak — into brutal combat as unwitting test subjects. As the century-long war nears its end, a decisive operation unfolds on the planet Monad, with the five Abnormal Survivors at its center.
