Fans of the classic manga and anime series City Hunter have plenty to look forward to: the 「CITY HUNTER POP UP STORE -Midnight Rendezvous-」, organised by Hakaba no Garō, is set to open across three venues in Tokyo and Aichi Prefecture from August 2026.

40 Years of City Hunter
City Hunter, the beloved manga by Tsukasa Hojo, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025 with cumulative sales exceeding 50 million volumes. The story follows Ryo Saeba, an elite sweeper (fixer) based in Shinjuku, Tokyo — a crack shot with unmatched physical ability who also happens to be hopelessly devoted to beautiful women. The 2024 Netflix live-action film, starring Ryohei Suzuki as Ryo and Nozomi Morita as Kaori Makimura, became an instant talking point upon its release, depicting the origin story of how the two partners first teamed up in present-day Shinjuku.
Theme: Midnight Urban Life
This year’s pop-up draws inspiration from the neon-lit streets, nightclubs, mirror balls, and pulsating city music of 1980s Shinjuku — the backdrop of the original series — under the concept of “Midnight Urban Life”.
