Daveigh Chase, the American actress and voice actress beloved by anime fans worldwide for her English voice performance as Chihiro in Studio Ghibli’s landmark film Spirited Away, has passed away at the age of 35.
Chase first lent her voice to the role of Chihiro Ogino in Spirited Away in 2001. The following year, she took on the role of Lilo in Disney’s animated feature Lilo & Stitch (2002), a character she would continue to voice across multiple sequel films, television series, and video games.
Beyond voice work, Chase was widely recognized for her live-action role as Samara Morgan, the iconic antagonist in the Hollywood horror film The Ring. Her other notable credits include Rhonda Volmer in the HBO drama series Big Love, Joyce in the animated series Fillmore!, and Samantha Darko in the cult film Donnie Darko.
