Manga creator Niichi announced on Sunday via their X (formerly Twitter) account that their manga Genjitsu mo Tamani wa Usowotsuku (Sometimes Even Reality Is a Lie!) has been green-lit for a television anime adaptation, scheduled to air in 2027. A celebratory illustration was shared alongside the announcement.
Story
Kaoru Terasaki is an avid MMORPG player who finally arranges to meet a long-time in-game friend in person. He worries his friend will be let down to discover that Kaoru is actually a guy, since he plays a female character in the game. The surprise, however, is entirely his — his friend turns out to be a cute girl named Nanami Osaka.
To make matters more complicated, Nanami has already told her parents she’s bringing a female friend home, and her father is fiercely overprotective when it comes to boys. The only way out? Kaoru has to cross-dress as a girl. Whether their in-game friendship blossoms into something more in the real world is at the heart of this romantic comedy.
About the Manga
The series originated as a dōjinshi in 2018, with Niichi serializing chapters through their X account before Kadokawa began publishing compiled volumes in 2020. The ninth and final volume is scheduled to ship on September 16. J-Novel Club holds the English-language license for the series.
