LOCUS Animation Studio announced on August 20 that Guardians of the Video Game, a theatrical animated film adapted from Gasfard‘s popular webtoon of the same name, will open in cinemas across South Korea in October.
Story
The film centers on Patch, a top-tier agent whose job is to maintain the worlds inside video games. When office politics derail his promotion and he is reassigned to the neglected Classic Games department, Patch dives into the 8-bit title Legend of the Dragon Sword on a mission to stop it from being permanently shut down.
The official webtoon synopsis describes the premise: within the wires and pixels of your favorite video game lies an unsuspecting protector. Patch is the top guardi-agent at the Guardians of the Video Game Corporation, working hard to keep games running at all costs — until his promotion is ruined by office politics and he is assigned to the obsolete Classic Games department. Nevertheless, Patch remains determined to fulfill his responsibilities as a guardian.
Production & Visual Style
The film is produced by LOCUS Animation Studio, the studio behind Red Shoes and The Priest. It blends 3D animation with pixel-art visuals to recreate the distinctive game-world aesthetic of the source webtoon. A launch poster and trailer have already been released.
