As part of the ongoing 10th anniversary project for the anime My Hero Academia (僕のヒーローアカデミア), based on the original manga by Kōhei Horikoshi, a special video titled PLUS ULTRA MOVIE “君はヒーローになれる” (“You Can Be a Hero”) has been released.
Hero Day and Its Origins
While the anime marked its 10th anniversary on April 3, the production team has long designated June 16 as “Hero Day” — a date chosen to commemorate the broadcast of Season 3, Episode 49, “One For All,” on June 16, 2018, which featured the climactic clash between All Might and All For One. Each year since, the team has used Hero Day as an occasion to launch special projects and announcements.
Retracing Deku’s Footsteps
The central concept of this year’s PLUS ULTRA MOVIE is the journey of protagonist Izuku Midoriya, known as Deku. The video spans from his childhood encounter with the Symbol of Peace, All Might, through the life-changing words — “You can be a hero” — that All Might bestowed upon him, all the way to his path toward becoming the greatest hero. The entire piece is set to the series’ iconic score, “You Say Run.”
New Animation Cuts and Key Staff
The video was produced by a team that includes key animator Yoshihiko Umakoshi alongside other veteran staff from the series. Notably, the video also features newly animated cuts created exclusively for this release, making it a must-watch for fans of the franchise.
The video’s full official title is 「僕のヒーローアカデミア The Animation 10th Anniversary」PLUS ULTRA MOVIE “君はヒーローになれる”, and it is now available as of Hero Day, June 16.
