The official website for the anime adaptation of Mai Matsuda‘s manga Walking Home with You (Hōkago Kitaku Biyori) launched on Wednesday, confirming the series will air on television. The site revealed the anime’s first teaser visual and announced an April 2027 premiere on NTV.
The teaser visual carries the tagline: “The requirement for joining the club is walking home with me.” Matsuda also shared a commemorative illustration to mark the announcement.
Story
Shun was the star of his middle school soccer team until an injury ended his dream. Now in high school, he drifts through his days without purpose — until he crosses paths with his eccentric upperclassman Naoki. She recruits him into her unofficial “Hyper-Epic Heading Home Club,” a one-woman operation devoted to transforming every walk home into an adventure. Together they chase elaborate detours, hidden treasures, and whatever else catches Naoki’s eye. The question is whether the club can bring color back to Shun’s grey everyday life.
Manga Background
Matsuda launched the manga in Futabasha‘s Manga Action magazine in August 2023. The seventh compiled volume is due out this Thursday. The anime adaptation was first announced in March 2025. Digital manga publisher Omoi holds the English license for the series.
Author’s Previous Work
Matsuda previously serialized Hikaru in the Light! in Manga Action from May 2021 to August 2022. Futabasha collected the series into four volumes, all of which were released in English by Omoi — then operating under the name Azuki.
