Hot on the heels of its anime debut, Hotaru no Yomeiri (ホタルの嫁入り) has been confirmed for a live-action drama adaptation, set to air on Fuji TV in 2027. The announcement caught fans completely off guard, arriving via a promotional video released the moment the anime’s first episode finished broadcasting on 9 October 2026.
About the Series
Hotaru no Yomeiri is a manga by Tachibana Oreko, the creator of Promise Cinderella and character designer for the anime Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de, published by Shogakukan under the Manga One Comics label. Set during the Meiji era — a time of rapid Westernisation in Japan — the story follows Kirigaya Satoko, a young noblewoman who dreams of marrying into a prestigious family to make her father proud, and Goto Shinpei, a hired killer who is utterly obsessed with her. Their forbidden, all-consuming love forms the heart of this dark romantic drama.
A Surprise Double Announcement
The live-action PR video, bearing the message “2027年 実写化決定 (Live-Action Adaptation Confirmed for 2027),” dropped immediately after the anime’s premiere episode concluded — an unusually swift move that sparked waves of excitement and disbelief across social media. Cast details for the live-action version have yet to be revealed, and further announcements are expected in due course.
Comment from Original Creator Tachibana Oreko
“I’m so happy that Hotaru no Yomeiri is going to be adapted into live action! I’m already looking forward to seeing how the characters I drew will live and move in the real world. There will be some differences in story and expression from the original, so I hope everyone will enjoy this new version of Hotaru no Yomeiri — one that is unique to live action. I’m truly grateful to everyone involved in the production, and to all the readers who have always supported this work. For now, I hope you’ll enjoy both the anime starting in October and the original manga together. Thank you so much!”
