Synopsis
To fight a war, humanity engineered “artificial witches” (人造魔女) — beings each constructed from a single human corpse and a single magic stone (魔石). Wielding powerful magic, they were deployed onto the battlefield as living weapons.
When the war ended and their purpose as weapons was fulfilled, the surviving artificial witches retreated deep into the forest, seeking a quiet place to call home. Their lives are finite, bound to the magic power remaining in their stones — when it runs out, so do they. Most of the artificial witches have come to accept this slow, inevitable death with quiet resignation.
But Mia, who has less magic power left than any of her kind, cannot bring herself to accept that fate. Driven by fear of death, she steals the magic stone of Annerose — known as the very first artificial witch — in a desperate bid to survive.
