September 3 marks the birthday of Kaji Yuki (梶裕貴), one of Japan’s most celebrated voice actors. Since his debut in 2004, Kaji has won the Newcomer Award at the 3rd Voice Actor Awards and took home the Best Lead Actor prize at both the 7th and 8th ceremonies in consecutive years.
In 2026, he appears in a range of titles including MAO, Cyborg 009: Nemesis, and Meitantei Precure!. In April he founded his own company, FRACTAL Co., Ltd., where he serves as representative director. Alongside his voice-acting career, he is developing the AI voice project Soyogi Fractal, and held the 3D live event 梵そよぎ 1st EXPO『0rigin』 on March 8. The Blu-ray & DVD BOX of that event is set for release on his birthday, September 3.
To celebrate, a reader poll asking “Which character voiced by Kaji Yuki is your favourite?” was conducted from August 22 to 28, 2026, drawing 125 responses. Roughly 80% of respondents were female and 20% male; about 45% were aged 19 or under, with the 30s age group making up around 25%.
No. 1 — Todoroki Shoto, My Hero Academia
Todoroki claimed the top spot with approximately 26% of the vote — his third consecutive year at number one. A student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, Todoroki wields a “Half-Cold Half-Hot” Quirk, controlling ice on his right side and fire on his left.
Readers praised his character arc: “He seemed like a lone wolf at first, but after the Sports Festival he opened up to his classmates and came to terms with his own Quirk — watching the ice in his heart melt through friendship was deeply moving.” Others highlighted Kaji’s nuanced vocal performance in conveying Todoroki’s complicated emotions stemming from his family’s suffering. Several fans noted that My Hero Academia was their introduction to Kaji Yuki’s work.
No. 2 — Eren Yeager, Attack on Titan
Eren held second place for the third year running with around 15% of the vote. The protagonist who loses his mother to the Titans and vows to wipe them out, Eren is one of Kaji’s most iconic roles.
Fans were effusive: “The line ‘I’ll wipe every last one of them off the face of the earth!!’ hooked me immediately, and the fact that Kaji maintained that intensity from episode one to the finale is proof of his devotion to the role.” One reader recalled hearing that Kaji’s speech would become as rough as Eren’s after recording sessions — a testament to how deeply he immersed himself in the character.
No. 3 — Sabito, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Sabito jumped from a tied 6th place last year to third with roughly 6% of the vote. Raised by Demon Slayer Corps trainer Urokodaki Sakonji, Sabito is the senior student who appears before protagonist Tanjiro Kamado wearing a fox mask.
Despite limited screen time, Sabito left a lasting impression: “His powerful yet gentle voice perfectly captured Sabito’s strength and kindness — it’s no wonder he nearly single-handedly defeated the demons at the Final Selection.” Fans also wished they could have seen Sabito grow into a full-fledged swordsman. The re-broadcast of the entire Demon Slayer series from April 2026 likely gave the character renewed exposure, contributing to his rise in the rankings.
