About Kimetsu no Yaiba
Kimetsu no Yaiba is based on the manga by Gotouge Koyoharu, published by Shueisha under the Jump Comics label. The series ran for 23 volumes and has surpassed a cumulative print run of 220 million copies worldwide. The story follows Tanjiro, a boy whose family is slaughtered by demons, as he joins the Demon Slayer Corps (鬼殺隊) in a quest to restore his demon-turned sister Nezuko to humanity.
Animation is produced by ufotable, with the TV anime series launching in April 2019. The Mugen-jo-hen arc — depicting the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons inside the Infinity Castle — is being produced as a trilogy. Chapter 1 opened in Japanese theaters on July 18, 2025.
The film also earned distinction as the sole Japanese title nominated for the Best Animated Motion Picture category at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, often regarded as a bellwether for the Academy Awards. While it did not take home the prize, the nomination drew significant international attention to the film.
