Aniplex has unveiled the first major details for the anime adaptation of King’s Proposal (Ōsama no Propose), the light novel series written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. The announcement, made on Sunday, confirmed a 2027 premiere window alongside the series’ lead cast member and a first teaser visual.
Lead Cast
Rie Takahashi will star in the series as Saika Kuozaki, described as the most powerful mage in the world.
Synopsis
King’s Proposal comes from the creative duo behind the beloved Date A Live franchise. Saika Kuozaki is an all-powerful witch with breathtaking looks — and the only person capable of stopping mysterious entities that attempt to destroy the world once every 300 hours. When Saika is mortally wounded, she passes both her powers and her body to Mushiki Kuga, an ordinary high school boy who stumbles upon her. Having her abilities, however, is far from mastering them. To have any hope of saving the world, Mushiki must enroll at a mage academy while disguised as Saika — all without letting anyone discover his true identity.
Light Novel and Manga
Tachibana launched the light novel series in 2021. Kadokawa released the eighth volume in Japan in August 2025 and will ship the ninth volume on December 18. Yen Press released the eighth English-language volume on October 13.
A manga adaptation by Nemo Kurio launched on Gangan Online in February 2023. Square Enix released the sixth and final compiled volume in March 2025.
The Date A Live Connection
Tachibana launched the original Date A Live light novel series in March 2011, also illustrated by Tsunako, under Kadokawa’s Fantasia Bunko imprint. The series concluded with its 22nd volume in March 2020, and Yen Press handles the English release.
The franchise has spawned manga, video games, five television anime seasons, and an anime film. The most recent TV series, Date A Live V, premiered in April 2024. In April 2025, a new anime project was announced — Date A Live F Last Date, a theatrical film set to open on March 26, 2027.
Additionally, the spinoff novels Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet by Yuichiro Higashide were adapted into a two-part theatrical anime in 2020.
