The TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) is making its console game debut with Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Itsuwari no Kōtei (薬屋のひとりごと ～偽りの皇弟～), a mystery adventure game launching on 18 March 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam. A promotional video has been released alongside details on original characters and gameplay systems.
A Brand-New Story from the Original Author
The game features a fully original story conceived by Hinata Natsu, the author of the source novels. Set against a web of supernatural incidents and conspiracies stretching from the inner palace to the pleasure district and the capital city, the story follows apothecary Maomao as she unravels the truth behind a “false imperial prince.” The narrative is structured around five mysteries and five curses, delivering a new chapter in the world of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto.
Original Characters
Three original characters created exclusively for the game will appear:
- Ganyū (冠宇) — a travelling stage actor
- Yiēnsī (妍希) — a senior official in the inner palace’s Bureau of Ceremonies
- Chénhàn (宸翰) — a regular patron of the Verdigris House (緑青館)
Each of these characters is connected to the central mysteries of the story.
Gameplay
Players investigate scenes, gather evidence, and use that evidence to solve cases. While Maomao is the primary playable character, certain sections allow players to switch to Jinshi and Maomao (毛毛), each of whom can access information unavailable to the others.
Beyond the main story, an affinity system lets players deepen bonds with characters by fulfilling their requests — such as delivering medicines. Higher affinity unlocks short character-specific vignettes.
As the story progresses, completing character dossiers for the quack doctor and Luomen will enlist their help during medicine-compounding sequences at the palace medical office. The difficulty of the associated minigame varies depending on which character is assisting.
Each chapter also has completion conditions; fulfilling them earns stamps, and collecting all stamps for a chapter unlocks a full-size still illustration.
