To mark the 50th anniversary of LaLa magazine (Hakusensha), a unique interactive advertisement titled “LaLa 50th Anniversary Flip Manga” (「LaLa50周年」めくれるまんが) has appeared at the Metro Promenade of Shinjuku Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, running from July 20 to 26, 2026. Visitors can physically flip the panels with their own hands.
How the “Flip Manga” Works
The installation is designed to showcase the hidden charm of LaLa’s titles — stories whose appeal isn’t always obvious from a cover alone. Instead of manga titles, the front of each panel displays a short phrase capturing the essence or personality of a work. Flip the panel, and the actual title is revealed, along with a QR code linking to a free preview of that series.
Highlight: Three Giant Flip Manga Panels
Three titles receive the premium “Giant Flip Manga” treatment, featuring oversized panels with newly drawn illustrations and messages from their creators, as well as iconic scenes from each series:
- CIPHER — by Minako Narita
- Ouran High School Host Club (桜蘭高校ホスト部) — by Bisco Hatori
- Natsume’s Book of Friends (夏目友人帳) — by Yuki Midorikawa
Note that the giant panels can only be flipped between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
