Kadokawa unveiled a teaser trailer, teaser visual, character visuals, and an official opening date of February 19 for the upcoming anime film based on Tsurumaikada‘s Olympic figure-skating manga Medalist.
Story
The film picks up where the television anime’s second season left off. The story follows Tsukasa, a young man whose dreams were shattered, and Inori, a girl left to fend for herself. The two share a dream and channel their tenacity toward the world stage — on the ice.

TV Anime
The first season premiered in Japan in January 2025 on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation programming block and 23 affiliated channels, with Disney+ handling international streaming.
The second season launched on January 24 on the same broadcast block and concluded on Sunday. Hulu is streaming it in the United States, while Disney+ carries it in other countries and territories.
The second season brought some staff changes: Hazuki Nakamura, the first season’s 3DCG environment supervisor, stepped up as art director, replacing Yōko Nakao. Kentaro Kashiwagi, the first season’s 3DCG composite supervisor, became compositing director of photography, replacing Shin’ichi Komeya.
Girl group HANA performed the opening theme “Cold Night,” and Conton Candy performed the ending theme “Rookies.”
Motion Capture
Japanese figure skater Rika Hongo joined the motion capture filming for the second season alongside returning former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki. Suzuki choreographed the skating routines for the first season in collaboration with retired skater Yuhana Yokoi and active competitive skater Hinano Isobe.
About the Manga
Tsurumaikada launched Medalist in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine in May 2020. The 15th compiled volume was published on July 22. Kodansha USA Publishing holds the English-language license.
The manga won Best General Manga at the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2023, and again at Kodansha’s 48th annual Manga Awards in May 2024.
