The Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation (日本漢字能力検定協会) has launched a special collaboration with Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu (Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and the Secret of Two), releasing an original kanji and Japanese-language learning printout titled “『映画名探偵プリキュア!』漢字検定” on the official Kanji Kentei (漢検) website.

Background and Purpose

The foundation works to nurture children’s interest in language through kanji and Japanese-language learning. In addition to administering the Kanji Kentei exam, it regularly produces educational content designed to help children engage with words in their everyday lives.

The Precure series has been beloved by children in Japan since its debut in 2004. The latest entry, Meitantei Precure!, began broadcasting in February 2026 and follows the Precure team as they use reasoning and deduction to protect everyone’s smiles. The theatrical film Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu is set to open on September 18, bringing the heroines to the big screen for an extra-large mystery-solving adventure.

The collaboration was conceived to align with the film’s themes, giving children a chance to experience the joy of thinking for themselves and discovering answers — through the medium of kanji and language.

What’s in the Printout

The original printout weaves the film’s story and characters into a series of kanji and Japanese-language exercises, including:

  • Kanji writing questions framed around the film’s narrative
  • A vocabulary question asking children to consider the difference in meaning between meitantei (名探偵, great detective) and tantei (探偵, detective)
  • Kanji and katakana tracing exercises to help children focus on the shape and stroke order of characters

The kanji writing questions cover Kanji Kentei Level 10 (approximately end of Grade 1), Level 9 (end of Grade 2), and Level 8 (end of Grade 3). Vocabulary questions use a multiple-choice format so that pre-school children can participate without needing to write. Katakana tracing is also included, making the sheet accessible to children at every stage — from those just learning to write all the way to those already studying kanji.

There are six questions in total, and the goal is to solve them all with a perfect “Hanamaru!” — the Japanese equivalent of a gold star.
