The official website for Yōhei Kameyama‘s Ginga Tokkyū Milky☆Subway (Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express) anime announced on July 3 that a new short anime titled “Milky☆Byway Spring Special: Terror on Chelovin’s Day” (Milky☆Byway Spring Special: Kyōfu no Chelovin Party) is in the works. Further details will be revealed at a later date.
Re-edited Film Now Screening
The announcement follows the June 12 launch of a re-edited theatrical version of the anime’s 12 episodes, supplemented with new content. The film is titled Rinji Zōhatsu Milky☆Subway Kakueki Teisha Gekijō Iki (Extra Service Milky☆Subway Local Train to the Theater) and is screening in MX4D, 4DX, and 2D formats across Japan.
Cast & Staff
Momoka Terasawa and Anna Nagase reprise their roles as Chiharu and Makina, respectively, joined by the rest of the anime’s returning cast. Kameyama once again serves as director, writer, and producer, and personally handled character designs, modeling, animation, and editing, among other duties. Bit Grooove Promotion is credited as the sound company.
About the Anime
The Milky☆Subway anime series premiered in July 2025 on Tokyo MX and streamed simultaneously on YouTube. Dubbed versions in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, French, Hindi, and Russian are also available on YouTube.
The story follows Chiharu, a super human, and Makina, a cyborg, who are arrested for breaking space traffic laws. Sentenced to community service by police officer Ryoko, they are assigned to clean the interplanetary train known as the “Milky☆Subway” alongside fellow offenders — super human pair Akane and Kanata, and cyborg duo Kurt and Max. What should have been a routine chore turns chaotic when the train suddenly launches itself into deep space.
The anime’s theme song is “Ginkagei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!), originally performed by the girl group Candies in 1977.
Origins
Kameyama first released the short Milky☆Highway in 2022 as his graduation project for Kadokawa’s Vantan Game Academy CG Animator program. The original and English-subtitled versions have since accumulated a combined 6.75 million views. Mizuki Fumitsuki voiced Chiharu and Kana Kobayashi voiced Makina in that original short.
