Netflix has officially set December 17, 2026 as the worldwide exclusive streaming premiere for its live-action series Kokumin Quiz (国民クイズ). The announcement came alongside the reveal of 16 new cast members and the release of the show’s first teaser trailer.
Premise
Based on the manga by Sugimoto Reiichi (story) and Kato Shinkichi (art), published by Ohta Publishing, the series is set in a near-future Japan where a new law grants the government the power to fulfill any wish — wealth, fame, erasure of a criminal record, the killing of an enemy, or even the founding of an independent nation — to whoever survives a hyper-popular national quiz show. The series will run for eight episodes.
Cast
Yamada Takayuki leads the series as K井K一, the charismatic host of the all-powerful quiz program.
The newly announced cast members are:
- Ishida Riko as Mari, an unidentified young girl who sets her sights on killing K井K一
- Kurashina Kana as Ayako, Mari’s mother and a pivotal figure in the story
- Seto Koji as Nambara Seiji, an activist plotting to bring down the Kokumin Quiz
- Takashima Masahiro as Murakoshi, the commander of the punishment squad responsible for enforcing quiz-determined penalties
- Koike Eiko as Kamijo Shoko, the show’s producer who has whipped the entire nation into a frenzy
- Ishibashi Renji as Gokumaza Takeshi, the Prime Minister of Japan
Additional cast members include Kataoka Rin, Aoki Yuzu, Matsukawa Naoruki, Imai Yuki, Daito Shunsuke, Maehara Ko, Hoshino Disco (Purpure), First Summer Uika, Horiuchi Keiko, and Omi Toshinori.
