The official Pokémon franchise website announced at the PokémonXP event on Friday that Disney+ will exclusively stream a brand-new stop-motion animated series, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, produced in collaboration with the acclaimed independent studio Aardman — the creative force behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. The series is set to debut in 2027, with Disney XD handling the television broadcast.
Both the official Pokémon and Aardman YouTube channels have released a teaser trailer for the series. The footage features Wooloo and Sirfetch’d, Pokémon first introduced in Pokémon Sword/Shield, which are set in the Galar region — a land inspired by the United Kingdom.
Peter Lord, Co-founder and Creative Director at Aardman, described the series’ setting as a region “very close to our hearts,” a clear nod toward the UK-inspired Galar.

Part of a Global Disney+ Deal
The series is part of a broader global distribution agreement between Disney+ and The Pokémon Company International. The same deal also brings Pokémon the Series: The Beginning — the original Indigo League season — to Disney+, where it began streaming on August 7 with its first 27 episodes, alongside an airing on Disney XD.
Other Pokémon Stop-Motion Projects
The Pokémon franchise’s previous stop-motion venture, Pokémon Concierge, launched with four episodes on Netflix in December 2023, animated by dwarf studios (known for Rilakkuma and Kaoru), with new episodes following in September 2025.
Meanwhile, the Pokémon: Horizons anime premiered in Japan in April 2023 with a one-hour special and continues to air on Fridays at 6:55 p.m. JST. On Netflix in the US, Season 2 — Pokémon Horizons: The Series—The Search for Laqua — arrived in February 2025, and Season 3 — Pokémon Horizons: Season 3—Rising Hope — was added on January 6.
