The official website for the PuniRunes anime, based on Takara Tomy’s toyline of the same name, announced on Saturday that the fourth season, PuniRunes Puni 4, will premiere on October 4 at 9:15 a.m. JST. The announcement came alongside a new main visual for the season, which also teased that the story will unfold at a location called “Puni School.”
About PuniRunes
Unlike conventional digital pets, the PuniRunes toys feature a hole that lets players physically “pet” the soft creature inside. The anime series follows the everyday life of the PuniRunes — mysterious creatures who adore being pampered — alongside Yuka, a fourth-grade girl with a love for all things soft and squishy. (The word puni-puni is a Japanese onomatopoeic expression for something soft and springy.)
Staff and Series History
Kunihiko Yuyama (Fairy Princess Minky Momo, Pokémon) served as chief director for the first two seasons, with Kentarō Yamaguchi directing the first season at OLM Digital. Gigaemon Ichikawa (Chikasugi Idol Akae-chan, The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made, A Galaxy Next Door) handled series scripts across the first three seasons, while Sayuri Ichiishi (Pokémon, Tamagotchi!) served as character designer.
