Toei Animation and Studio51 have announced that Expelled from Paradise -The Stellar Angel- (楽園追放 -The Stellar Angel-) will launch on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch on November 26.
A Bridge Between Two Films
The game is a completely original visual novel based on the 2014 theatrical anime Expelled from Paradise (楽園追放 -Expelled from Paradise-), a full 3DCG film created by the duo of Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus) and director Seiji Mizushima. Set in the year 2400, the story takes place after the catastrophic “Nano Hazard” drove 98% of humanity to abandon their physical bodies and migrate to the virtual world known as Diva. A sequel film, Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of Hearts (楽園追放 心のレゾナンス), is scheduled for release on November 13, 2026.
The Stellar Angel is designed to fill in the narrative gap between the two theatrical films. The scenario is written by Shotaro Teshirogi, author of the novel Expelled from Paradise: mission.0.
Story Synopsis
In the year 2400, in the wake of the Nano Hazard that devastated the surface world, 98% of humanity has abandoned their bodies and relocated to the virtual space Diva. But on the ruined surface, a mysterious new lifeform known as “Parallel Plants” has suddenly begun to sprout, rapidly expanding their territory. Giant worms lurk near the plants, attacking humans on sight.
The epicenter of the Parallel Plant outbreak is Svarga, a desert town turned ghost city by a past epidemic. Simultaneously, a Diva Security Bureau agent who stole a top-secret file called “Grey Goo” — containing data on the Nano Hazard — has fled to the surface, and their trail leads straight to Svarga. Multiple factions converge on this mystery-shrouded desert town.
Cast
The two main characters are Angela Balzac, a former Diva agent who has defected to the surface and runs an odd-jobs business alongside Dingo, and Dingo / Zarik Kajiwara, a surface-dweller who previously served as a Diva security observer. Both are voiced by their original film cast members: Rie Kugimiya (Angela) and Shinichiro Miki (Dingo).
Gameplay Features
The game features a choice system called the “K2-system”, in which players guide Angela’s heart at key story moments. Choices between bonds and resolve branch the narrative toward multiple endings, including Bad Ends.

Editions and Pricing
The game is a joint production between Toei Animation and Studio51, and marks Studio51’s first self-produced console/PC title. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch physical edition (standard and limited) are now open, and the Steam version is available to wishlist.

The Limited Edition includes a newly written novel, a newly illustrated B2 tapestry, an original soundtrack, and an angel-wing bookmark. The release date for the download edition has not yet been determined and will be announced via the official website and social media channels.
Alongside the announcement, the official website has fully launched with a teaser PV and character information. An official Discord server for fans of the Expelled from Paradise series has also opened.
