SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT, the anime currently playing in Japanese theaters, has been confirmed for a TV series broadcast beginning January 2027.
From Theaters to Television — With New Content
Based on FromSoftware’s acclaimed video game SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE, the anime follows Wolf, a shinobi who fights to protect his young lord Kuro, a boy who carries a rare bloodline known as the “Dragon’s Heritage.” The TV series will run for 8 episodes, building on the story of the theatrical version while incorporating a significant number of new episodes and cuts to create a distinct viewing experience.
A newly revealed key visual shows Wolf and Kuro standing amid a field of pampas grass, gazing toward an uncertain and perilous fate, with formidable enemies looming behind them.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our audience, the theatrical run of SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT has been extended beyond its original three-week limited engagement. We are deeply grateful to everyone who came to see it in theaters. This project originally began as an 8-episode TV series. However, during production, we felt strongly that audiences should first experience the film’s visuals and sound on the big screen, which led us to release an edited theatrical version ahead of the TV broadcast. We sincerely apologize for not making it clear that the theatrical release was an edited version, and for not announcing the TV series sooner. The TV series will include scenes and cuts not featured in the film, and will be released weekly as a work with its own distinct appeal. Whether you’ve already seen the film or are encountering this story for the first time through the TV series, we hope you’ll look forward to it.
