About the Source Manga

Kariya and Hanasaki first launched Oishinbo in 1983. Shogakukan published the 111th volume in December 2014, after which the manga went on hiatus. The story centers on an epic culinary rivalry between the Tōzai Shimbun’s “Ultimate Menu” project and gourmet authority Yūzan Kaibara’s “Supreme Menu.”

Shinei Animation previously produced a television anime adaptation that ran for 136 episodes from 1988 to 1992, plus two specials. The franchise has also inspired multiple live-action TV series and a live-action film. Internationally, Viz Media has released five volumes of Oishinbo digitally via VizManga.com and the Viz Manga app, as well as in print.
