Story Overview
“Masks” grant tremendous power to those who wear them — sometimes expanding possibilities without limit, sometimes bringing catastrophe beyond imagination. Pel, apprentice to legendary mask craftsman Gaston Lu, is possessed by the fearsome “War God Mask” and, without intent, kills his companions and his master. Vowing that such a tragedy will never happen again, Pel sets out on a journey across the world to destroy every mask Gaston ever created, confronting the weight of his own sins along the way. New friendships, powerful enemies — the young man presses on until the day he can repay his debt to his teacher.
Episode 1 Synopsis: “Mask Merchant Pel”
A town buzzes with banners and balloons celebrating an upcoming “Masquerade Ball,” yet the mood among the townspeople is strangely subdued. Into this atmosphere strolls Pel, a cheerful traveling mask merchant who sets up a lively street stall and catches the eye of a girl named Sona.
Pel tells Sona plainly: “I came to this country to destroy the masks of Gaston Lu.” Gaston was one of the world’s three greatest mask craftsmen, killed alongside his apprentices in a mysterious incident seven years prior.
