About the Exhibition
The exhibition first opened in March 2025 at Seibu Shibuya in Tokyo as part of the series’ 50th broadcast anniversary celebrations. It features more than 2,000 items, including original planning documents from the TV anime era, character and mecha design sheets, key animation cels, background art, a timeline spanning 50 years of the franchise, a large-scale model of the Yamato battleship, and vintage merchandise.
Anno, who serves as executive producer and director on the new Yamato film, has spoken about the series’ personal importance to him:
“If I had never encountered Space Battleship Yamato, I would not be who I am today.”
