About the Anime
The first season of Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf debuted in April 2024 and ran for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll streamed the series with both subtitles and an English dub.
The story follows Kraft Lawrence, a traveling merchant who one night discovers a wolf goddess named Holo asleep in his cart. Tired of watching over harvests in the countryside, Holo strikes a deal with Lawrence: she will lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to boost his profits in exchange for accompanying him on his travels. The series is a completely new adaptation telling the story from the beginning.
Background
The anime is based on the Spice and Wolf light novel series by Isuna Hasekura, with illustrations by Jū Ayakura, which launched in 2006. The 25th and latest volume is due out on October 9. Yen Press publishes the novels, manga adaptation, and the spinoff series Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf in English.
The novels previously inspired two TV anime seasons directed by Takeo Takahashi — the first airing from January to March 2008, and Spice and Wolf II from July to September 2009. A VR anime followed in June 2019, with a sequel in December 2020.
