The popular Korean novel series SSS-Class Hunter Who Dies to Live (死して生きるSSS級ハンター), based on the original work by SMARTOON, has been officially greenlit for a TV anime adaptation set to premiere in January 2027. A teaser visual, teaser PV, main cast, and key staff have all been announced alongside the news.
Story
When a mysterious “Tower” suddenly appears in the world, it brings with it hordes of ferocious monsters and deadly hunter battles. Kim Kongja, a lowly F-rank hunter, spends his days in obscurity while envying Yeomje — the world’s number-one ranked hunter. Everything changes when Kongja acquires an S+-rank Copy Skill that activates only upon his death. After witnessing a scandal involving Yeomje and being killed for it, Kongja uses a copied skill — “revert to 24 hours before death” — to come back and seek revenge. To make things even more extraordinary, the spirit of Geomje, once the mightiest hunter who ever lived, becomes Kongja’s ghostly companion through the copy skill, recognizing his talent and joining him as an unlikely partner in their assault on the Tower.
The series has been serialized on the digital manga and novel platform Piccoma since 2022, consistently ranking at the top of the fantasy category and accumulating over 25 million hearts (likes).
Teaser Visual & PV
The teaser visual depicts Kongja languishing in a dim room, with Geomje’s spirit looming silently behind him. A single glowing, mysterious card floats above Kongja’s head — a harbinger of the dramatic turn his fate is about to take. A teaser PV has also been released.

Ohtsuka commented that Kongja’s rise-to-the-top story unfolds at a brisk pace alongside a colorful cast of characters, and that the recording sessions have been equally energetic. Hino described Geomje as a bold and positive character who uses his vast experience and skill to support Kongja as his ghostly companion.

Screenwriter Oba described the series as a “roller-coaster” drama full of unpredictable twists, expressing hope that both longtime fans of the source material and newcomers will find something to enjoy every episode.
The TV anime SSS-Class Hunter Who Dies to Live is scheduled to begin broadcasting in January 2027.
