Talent agency Voice Kit announced earlier this week that voice actress Sumire Uesaka has been receiving multiple highly malicious threatening emails, some of which contain explicit threats of physical harm. The agency stated it is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness, and has already consulted with local police, filed a formal complaint, and requested an investigation. Voice Kit added that it will continue cooperating with law enforcement and all relevant parties, and is prepared to pursue strict legal action.
In a follow-up statement the next day, Voice Kit disclosed further alarming details: the threatening emails contain specific plans to kidnap and murder Uesaka, allegedly carried out by multiple perpetrators, by September 27. The agency also noted indications that those responsible may already know Uesaka’s current home address. In light of the credible danger, Voice Kit began consulting with event organizers and other relevant parties to assess whether Uesaka should proceed with any scheduled appearances or performances leading up to September 27.
All KyoMAF 2026 Appearances Canceled
The staff of the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (KyoMAF) 2026 announced on Wednesday that all of Uesaka’s scheduled appearances across both days of the event have been canceled at the request of her agency. The organizers issued an apology to fans who had been looking forward to seeing her at the event.
As the official PR Ambassador for KyoMAF 2026, Uesaka had been scheduled to participate in the following events:
- Saturday: KyoMAF 2026 opening ceremony and the Kyoto Ani Monozukuri Award 2026 presentation
- Sunday: Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Season 2 stage event and the KyoMAF 2026 closing ceremony
All of these appearances have now been called off.
