The TV anime Tenmaku no Jādūgal has unveiled its third promotional video alongside a new special visual. The production has also officially announced that veteran voice actress Kujira will voice Borakuchin, the first empress of Ögedei Khan.
Who Is Borakuchin?
Borakuchin is the first empress of Ögedei, the second emperor of the Mongol Empire. She is described as perpetually calm and dignified, quietly scheming behind the scenes out of concern for the empire’s future and the imbalance of power within it. The third PV depicts her first encounter with protagonist Shitara, as well as the various consorts each harbouring their own hidden agendas. The new special visual features Shitara alongside the other consorts in an elegant group illustration.
Kujira’s Comment on Playing Borakuchin
“I’m Kujira, voicing Borakuchin. When I got the call, I blurted out, ‘I’m so glad you found me and cast me!’ I’ve been a history buff and had already been reading the original manga as a regular fan — I never imagined I’d be cast in the anime, let alone in this role. Borakuchin is always reserved and composed, rarely showing what’s truly on her mind — a schemer full of mystery. Going forward, she becomes a wall standing in the way of Dörегene and Shitara. It’s a new kind of ‘auntie’ role for me, quite different from the good-natured, straightforward types I usually play. Recording was a constant process of trial and error, and I was helped enormously by everyone around me as we lovingly built up the image of Borakuchin together. Please enjoy the battle of wits — Dörегene & Shitara vs. Borakuchin!”
About the Series
Tenmaku no Jādūgal is based on the manga by Tomato Soup, serialised in Akita Shoten’s Souffle magazine. The story follows Shitara, a young woman who has lost everything to the Mongol Empire, as she joins forces with consorts who share her grudge against the empire to shake its very foundations from within. Animation is produced by Science SARU.
The series airs on TV Asahi’s nationwide network every Saturday at 23:30, as well as on BS Asahi, AT-X, CS Tele-Asa Channel 1, and Animax.
