Story and Source Material

The series is set in a Japan where humans and demons coexist peacefully. Yuzu is an ordinary high school girl living in the shadow of her older sister, who is already the bride of a demon. Her life is upended when she has a fateful encounter with a strikingly beautiful ogre who claims her as his own bride.

Kureha launched the light novel series on Starts Publishing’s Novema! platform in 2019, where it won the grand prize at the First Novema! Character Short Story Contest. The ninth volume was published in May 2024, with illustrations by Yū Shiroya.

Jun Togashi‘s manga adaptation has been running in Starts Publishing’s Noicomi magazine since December 2021, topping Noicomi’s annual girls’ comics ranking in both 2022 and 2023. The ninth compiled volume shipped on March 27, and MangaPlaza is publishing the manga in English.

Combined circulation for the light novel and manga adaptation has surpassed 5.8 million copies. A live-action film adaptation also opened on March 27, selling 146,000 tickets and grossing approximately 202,395,960 yen (about US$1.27 million) in its opening three days.

The anime premieres in Japan on July 4 at 24:30 (effectively July 5 at 12:30 a.m.) on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV, with simulcast streaming on d Anime Store, ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai. Nine additional broadcast channels across Japan and further streaming platforms will follow.
