Thunder 3 is a manga by Ikeda Yuki, serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine since 2022. It concluded in June 2026, just before the anime adaptation began airing, and was nominated for the “Next Manga Award 2022.” The story follows protagonist Tezuka Pyontaro and his two best friends, Azuma Tsubame and Ochanomizu Hiroshi — collectively known as the “Small 3” — as they search for Pyontaro’s missing little sister, Futaba.

Episode 4: A World Under Alien Occupation

The episode opens on a crisp morning with Segami Teiichi doing push-ups. His world is one where aliens have already conquered Earth — the news announces a unified planet under a “Grand Emperor,” alien spacecraft fill the skies, and giant robots patrol the streets. Segami feels a creeping resignation about humanity’s fate.

On his way to university, a beautiful woman in a midriff-baring outfit hands him a flyer for what appears to be a self-help seminar. The copy reads: “Feeling frustrated with the world? Let’s lick each other’s wounds and face tomorrow together!” But one line in particular catches Segami’s eye: “Lots of cute girls! F-cup and above.”

Viewers online were delighted, with comments ranging from “His eyes literally lit up” to “Don’t get hung up on F-cups!” and “Is D-cup not good enough?”

I Want a Girlfriend Before I Die!

Shortly after, Segami witnesses an alien giant robot crush a car, killing civilians. When bystanders protest, the aliens obliterate them without hesitation. Fans noted this was the first time the anime had depicted aliens explicitly killing humans on screen, and many were shaken by how brutal the world felt.

Faced with the possibility of dying at any moment, Segami’s thoughts immediately return to the F-cup flyer. He scans the QR code, tidies himself up, and heads out — driven by one clear goal: “I want a girlfriend before I die!” Viewers found his straightforwardness endearing, with one comment reading: “Staring death in the face and his survival instinct kicks in as a desire for romance.”

On the way, Segami passes three people talking about Futaba and vaguely recognizes them as the “manga people” who fight aliens in videos he’s seen online. His reaction? Essentially, “Huh, they’re real… anyway, moving on.” Fans laughed at the main trio being reduced to background extras in their own show.

Beautiful Women… or a Trap?

At the destination building, Segami encounters a strikingly beautiful woman waiting for the elevator — Makino Reika (voiced by Wataya Miho) — who asks to exchange contact details with him. Upstairs, three more women greet him enthusiastically, asking about his height and also requesting his contact info. Segami is overjoyed: “Coming here was the right call!”

His elation is short-lived. The meeting room is filled with intimidating men — thin eyebrows, sharp eyes, smoked-lens glasses, and visible tattoos. Segami panics internally. Fans online were equally alarmed: “This is clearly a scam” and “Cute girls and scary guys… this is a honeytrap.”

Welcome to Rebellion

Relief comes when the woman who handed him the flyer walks in. Her name is Kisaragi Mio (voiced by Maekawa Ryoko), and she reassures Segami that this isn’t a yakuza operation — it’s a resistance organization called “Rebellion,” made up of people who lost loved ones to the aliens. Because the founder has yakuza ties, some members come from that world. Also present is a member known as “Genius,” Sumeragi Kyoji, casually eating yogurt.

Mio then leads Segami into another room — stocked wall to wall with real firearms, including machine guns. So Segami’s F-cup-fueled journey ends with him joining an armed anti-alien resistance. Fans summed it up perfectly: “From F-cup to despair… either way, it’s despair.”

Maekawa Ryoko (Kisaragi Mio) posted on social media: “The alluring flyer led somewhere with cute girls and scary-looking guys. Mio-san, are you sure it’s okay to trust them!?”

Aoi Azusa, who voices Pyontaro’s dog Puusuke (and also plays Rebellion member Aikawa Natsu), pointed out: “When you think about it, Segami never actually says any of what he’s thinking out loud… and that makes it even funnier.” His inner thoughts are fully audible to the audience — but completely hidden from every other character.
