The official website for To You in the Beyond — the anime film adaptation of Akiko Abe‘s novel Doko Yori mo Tooi Basho ni Iru Kimi e — released a full trailer, a new key visual, and additional cast announcements on Wednesday.
Theme Song and Trailer
The full trailer previews the film’s theme song “Olive,” performed by musician Tota, giving fans their first extended look at the film’s tone and visuals.
Newly Announced Cast
- Sumire Uesaka as Tamaki Mishima, an honors student and classmate of Kazuki and Nao
- Wataru Hatano as Shōji Aiba, a generous and sincere young man
- Nobuhiko Okamoto as Akimitsu Yamu, Kazuki’s friend
- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Yoshiki Suga, who sees Kazuki as a rival

Story
The film follows Kazuki Tsukigase, a boy who transfers to a high school on a remote island to escape everyone who knows him. He hears rumors of an inlet on the island where people mysteriously disappear. When he ventures there, he discovers an unconscious girl. She revives at a clinic able to share only that her name is Nao, that she is 16 years old — and that she whispers the year “1974.”
Staff
Junichi Wada (HIGH CARD) directs the film at TMS Entertainment. Sayaka Kuwamura (Strobe Edge; Josee, the Tiger and the Fish) wrote the screenplay, Hechima (Cosmic Princess Kaguya!) serves as character designer and chief animation director, and Kōji Nakamura is composing the score. Shochiku is distributing the film.
Source Material and Manga Adaptation
Abe’s original novel, illustrated by syo5, was published by Shueisha in October 2017. A manga adaptation by Haruka Chino launched on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website in August 2025; its first compiled volume was released on February 19.
Release
To You in the Beyond opens in Japan on October 9. Producers Shochiku and Pony Canyon have stated that international release details will be announced at a later date.
