The production team behind the fall 2026 anime Tōgen Anki ~Nikkō Kegon no Taki-hen~ has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for Episode 1, “Training Begins”, set to air on Friday, October 2, 2026.
About Tōgen Anki
Tōgen Anki is adapted from the manga by Yuki Urushihara, serialized in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion, with cumulative series sales surpassing 6.5 million copies. The story reimagines the classic Japanese folktale “Momotarō,” pitting descendants of demons against descendants of Momotarō in a dark new hero saga. Animation production is handled by Studio Hibari under the direction of Ato Nonaka.
Story Arc: ~Nikkō Kegon no Taki-hen~
Following the fierce battles of the “Kyoto & Nerima Arc” (aired July–December 2025), Shiki and his fellow Rasetsugakuen students have grown through their hardships. However, Yaoroshi clashes with instructor Mudano Mujin over his teachings on the value of comrades, and instead aligns himself with the ideology of Onigokutai General Todoroki Satsu — the total annihilation of the Momo bloodline — ultimately abandoning Rasetsu.
When Shiki realizes that the Onigokutai targets even non-combatants, he sets out with Mudano and his classmates to pursue Yaoroshi to Nikkō. There, the Kegon Falls have mysteriously stopped flowing, and a massive research facility has been constructed — one where terrifying experiments are underway.
Episode 1 Synopsis: “Training Begins”
Shiki and the Rasetsugakuen students face a new trial: climbing a mountain in the middle of a freezing blizzard, with all students required to reach the goal within 24 hours. To make things harder, part-time instructors Nekozaki Hakure and Innami Yū are called in to stand in their way.
