Volume 1 of Blood Friend, the latest manga series from artist Rei Mikamoto, hit shelves today, June 12. The series is described as a vampire romance and runs in Monthly Comic Beam, published by KADOKAWA.
The story centers on two girls with contrasting personalities: Akane, a tough, street-smart girl known as the strongest in her neighborhood, and Aoi, a quiet, gentle classmate who always seems to find herself in trouble.
Their lives change forever when, as fifth-grade elementary-school students, they join classmates on a test of courage at a Western-style mansion on the outskirts of town. Aoi mysteriously vanishes, leaving behind only traces of blood. Akane spends the next five years desperately searching for her missing friend — until she finally finds Aoi again, only to discover that Aoi has become a vampire.
Determined to save Aoi from a dangerous situation, Akane makes the fateful choice to become a vampire herself. Bound together by blood, the two girls’ story unfolds as a vampire romance unlike any other.
Blood Friend is currently serialized in Monthly Comic Beam (KADOKAWA).
