The official website for the Liar Game television anime — based on Shinobu Kaitani‘s manga — announced on Tuesday that Jun Fukuyama has been cast as Nearco, the character who oversees the “Contraband Game.” Both the character and the game made their debut in episode 11, which aired on Monday.
Story Synopsis
College student Nao Kanzaki unexpectedly receives a mysterious letter along with a suitcase containing 100 million yen. She has been chosen to compete in the LIAR GAME — a high-stakes psychological battle where lies, deception, and betrayal are the only currency. Naïve and relentlessly honest, Nao quickly finds herself outmatched. Desperate, she enlists the help of Shinichi Akiyama, a brilliant former con artist with a razor-sharp mind. As the two plunge deeper into the twisted competition, they must outwit ruthless opponents in a world where trust itself is a weapon. In a game built entirely on lies, can honesty still win?

About the Manga
Kaitani’s Liar Game manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump from 2005 through January 2015, with the 19th and final compiled volume released in May 2015. Kaitani has since launched a new short serialization titled Liar Game: The Last Game in Shueisha’s Grand Jump Mucha magazine, beginning February 25.
The series has previously inspired two live-action films, two live-action television series, two live-action online series, and a stage play in 2023. Kaitani’s other manga, ONE OUTS, was also adapted into a television anime in 2008.
