Three Stories, Three Worlds
Grotesqqque is structured as an omnibus film comprising three stories, each set in a distinct world:
- “Aeliens”
- “4649 Girl” — pronounced “Yoroshiku★Shōjo,” a wordplay on “Nice to Meet You★Girl.” The kanji carry the literal meaning “Evening Dew Heads to Its Death★Girl,” while the number string 4649 can be read in Japanese as “Yoroshiku.”
- “Nocturne: Kono Grotesque na Yoru ni” (literally Nocturne: On This Grotesque Night) — romanized in a previous video as “Nocturn: En Cette Nuit Grotesque.”

The film is a production of JOEN, a company jointly established by Sony media subsidiary Aniplex, its CloverWorks animation studio, Production I.G sister studio Wit Studio, and publisher Shueisha. CloverWorks producer Yūichi Fukushima and Wit Studio producer Tetsuya Nakatake serve as JOEN’s representative directors.
Grotesqqque is scheduled to open in 2026.
