Gangan JOKER’s July issue (Square Enix), which went on sale on June 22, launched two brand-new manga series simultaneously: Kimi to Sumitai Undine by Yunamaro, and Rosenburg no Shimaite ~Ochikobore Majutsushi, Shimai de Ryōriten Hajimemashita~ by Takase Asuka.
Kimi to Sumitai Undine — A Rom-Com with a Water Spirit
Kimi to Sumitai Undine (“I Want to Live with You, Undine”) is a romantic comedy centered on a high school boy sharing a home with a girl who is an undine — a spirit of water.
The protagonist, Shimizu Junshō, has left his hometown to live alone while attending high school in the city. He ends up cohabitating with Urin, a young undine. Junshō is fascinated by the biology and behavior of this mysterious being, but Urin is quick to remind him that before she is an undine, she is simply a girl with feelings of her own.
Rosenburg no Shimaite — A Culinary Fantasy of Two Dropout Mages
Rosenburg no Shimaite ~Ochikobore Majutsushi, Shimai de Ryōriten Hajimemashita~ (“The Rosenburg Sisters’ Inn — Dropout Mages Open a Restaurant Together”) is a culinary fantasy following two sisters who failed to fulfill their dream of becoming mages.
Reno and Airi attend a school of magic but are unable to pass the mage certification exam. One day, the pair wander into a newly opened restaurant in town that is actively recruiting customers — only to be served a visibly disastrous, pitch-black burnt omelette. That fateful meal sets the two sisters off on a new adventure.
