Key Visual แรกของ動畫 ghost/夜の果て แสดงภาพไนกี้สาวผมดำชุดสีชมพูนั่งบนเก้าอี้ และมาสุกางร่มมองท้องฟ้าดาว

The original feature-length anime from director Shingo Natsume — previously announced under the working title ghost(仮題) — has received its official title: ghost/夜の果て (Ghost / To the Edge of the Night). The film is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on February 11, 2027. Alongside the announcement, the production released the first key visual, music details, and a special early teaser.

Staff and Story

The film reunites the core team behind the TV anime ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. (ACCA13区監察課). Ono Natsume provides the original character concepts, Hisagai Norifumi serves as character designer, and Madhouse handles animation production.

Set in the near future where labor has become obsolete and society is seemingly fulfilled, the story follows Nike, a young girl who refuses to conform to the comfortable social order and relentlessly pursues what is “real.” The first key visual features Nike — a black-haired girl in a pink outfit seated in a chair — alongside Masu, a young man holding an umbrella and gazing up at a star-filled sky.

Music

Indie rock band Hitsuji Bungaku (羊文学) will contribute both the theme song and insert songs, writing six original tracks in total, including the theme/insert song “Sugar.” The film’s score is composed by Kimishima Ozora (君島大空), with all music recorded via full film scoring to resonate deeply with the world of the film.

Special Teaser

The released teaser opens on a vast starry sky reflected in Nike’s eyes, accompanied by her words: “In the starry sky, sometimes — very rarely — you encounter something beautiful.” As a Hitsuji Bungaku insert song plays, a series of striking scenes unfolds, culminating in the on-screen text: “I want to know what is real,” set against imagery of dramatic light and shadow.

Manga Adaptation

A manga adaptation of ghost/夜の果て has also been announced, with art by Himiko. The series will launch in the September issue of Young Ace (KADOKAWA), on sale August 4. The August issue of Young Ace, on sale July 4, will carry a preview of the film and a serialization announcement.

Director’s Comment

“Despair and prayer. I want to know ‘the truth that cannot be seen with the eyes.’ This film traces the path of a fifteen-year-old girl as she falls to the depths of the night. She possesses a lucid madness and a purity of defiance that goes too far. The sight of her reaching toward ‘the beautiful things that are truly there in the darkness’ may look like despair to some viewers, or something else entirely to others. But this is also a universal story that stirs the contradictory emotions everyone hides deep in their hearts. I hope you will find that faint light on the screen.”
